We have a 51 M with disk brakes. I read on another post that the last 3993 M's had these. I was also told that it might have the SM crankshaft in it. I found the casting number and it doesn't match the M or SM castings numbers in my parts catalog. It is 45571DD, my book has 45571DB for M and 45571DE for SM. Does anybody have any ideas? Is there a chance that it could have the faster SM gears also?
Thanks,
Adam

The DD crank can be found in late M and SM.Its
the bigger bearing size like DE crank.DD has hole taped and set screw to hold start crank pin in,
DE uses expatsion pin without set screw. If SM gears were put in reg M they never made it in to
parts book.

The suffixes are upgrades, I have no idea what the upgrades were. In your case the sequence is DB, DD, DE, don't know if there was a DC. I don't have a Super M, but my M parts book says the standard crankshaft is 353746 R94, which replaces 45571 DEX, there is also a .030 under size 352749 R94, works for 45572 DFX. IH sometimes did upgrades such as the brakes, as the new models were phased in. I have never heard of a factory M with Super M gears, but I suppose it is possible, I do not think it is likely, however.
