I am rebuilding the engineon my (h) after getting the carb # to order a rebuild kit I found that the carb # indicates that it is a distiallate carb, but the trctor is a gasser ? did Ih use the distillate carb on gas engines also ? or did some previous owner put the wrong carb on the tractor ?
Thanks in advance for your help !

I just went through my son's "H" with distillate carb. The only difference between this one and a gasoline carb internally seems to be the idle air jet. The parts book lists one for gasoline and a different one for distillate.
The jets can be purchased at your Case-IH dealer for less than $20.

The carb should be OK one difference between gasoline and didtillate/kerosene was metering rod. Think gasoline carb tends to run a little leaner. Distillate/kerosene tractors were designed to run on gasoline until warmed up and 90% of them today are never run much longer than it takes to warm them up.

Your tractor most likely was a distillate burner originally. I don't think there is any major differances in the 2 carburetors, other than the fact that the distillate carb had a drain cock instead of a drain plug. My 1940 H has the distillate carb, and the rebuild kit I used for it was listed as just a Farmall H kit. You shouldn't have any problems using what you have.

My guess is they just started using gas full time, and the carb that is there will work fine on gas, no point in changing it.
