Recently done complete overhaul. Having hard time sealing head. Doesn't appear to have any coolant in oil and runs fine.Should I have used thread sealer on head bolts? I don't think they go into the water jacket. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul

I should have said something on this board a long time ago aboiut this so now is as goo as time as ever . I always use a BOTTOMING TAP to clean out the holes and also use either or brake clean to wash out the holes and blow dry and it does not hurt to ADD a couple of threads to the bottom but i have never had a head bolt bottom out on me yet , if it was a FEL PRO gskt . now i have had a hard time getting them to seal on the gassers and have since gone to the diesel toqure spec. on gassers this gets the job done.

Did you check the head bolts to make sure that they aren't too long and might be bottoming out in the block? I found that new ones I ordered from IH dealer were too close to being too long, that I went ahead and trimmed 1/8 inch or so off them. Someone on this board had suggested that even with new bolts, the fact that I'd had the head surface flattened might be enough to cause the new bolts to bottom out. I've since thought that that person gave me some very time-saving information. My 560D head is now torqued to spec and I know it's properly sealed.

Never thought of that RO. The head was shaved some and I may have to remove some length from the headbolts. Thanks

Paul,
How do you know your head isn't sealing? You say it runs fine with not coolant in the oil. I'm only asking because I had the head on my 460 shaved and didn't do anything to the head boltsto shorten them up. Maybe I need to

When I run it for awhile, you can see a tiny bit of coolant foaming from out around the head gasket on the distributor side in a couple spots. After I shut the engine down, coolant will weep from around the gasket on the carb side after setting for a day. I'm not getting any puddles or big drips, just seepage. There is no white smoke from the exhaust.
