I looked out my kitchen window this morning, and noticed that with all the melting snow and now today rain, that the fields surrounding the 2 acres that my house sits on, are nothing but huge ponds. One covers at least 15 acres, while the other covers about half that. I told the Missus that this may be the time to sell since waterfront property should always bring premium dollar. Actually, we need the moisture, as our ground has been exceedingly dry for several years. Spreading fertilizer may be one of those things we do right ahead of the planter this year.

It's the tide coming in - I told you that global warming was melting the ice caps! ;^)

I'm hoping that we get a little more snow or some slow rain this spring. Around here, it was dry last summer and fall. It seemed like all this winter's snow was the light fluffy stuff. The frost is going out and some of the springs back by the river are still dried up.

Doesn't your ground have drain tile ? If not, doesn't it get really hard from all the water ?

We had a good amount of snow here too that has melted away. It was interesting to see that snow melt but there wasn't much run off. We have been very dry here too so it is good to have the moisture soak in.

Bob: Truly a great way to see that snow go, same around here in SW Ontario. It snowed all winter, acumulated less than a foot on the open field. I was pushing back snow 3 weeks ago and the snow has been melting all winter. The snow just disappeared in the past 2 weeks, and no water running at all.

Hugh,

When I plowed up some sod for my next year's sweet corn crop the plow turned up nothing but dry ground. A two bottom plow really put the Super M to work in those conditions. I think that the new garden will really be in great shape this spring with all the snow that melted down and the good hard freezing winter that we have had.
