Is there a noticeable difference in power by switching to the high altitude pistons in an F-20?Just wondering if it would be worth the money and effort to do it on my 37'. As it is it runs good,no oil smoke or knocks.Mostly used for parades, shows, some utility work [play].

unless it needs tore down for some other reason I would not change it. Sure you could gain some horse power but for what? And then higher compression will make it hard to start by hand. I have pulled 2 16 inch plows with mine and has no lack for power. It has the flat pistons in it.

One option you may consider, rather than investing in an new psiton set, is to mill your head down a bit for increased compression. I just had a head done for a 300 and it cost me right around $100 to take .125" off. You could do .100" and see a difference. My .02 Regards, Zak

Already have the pistons, would get new ring set.Pistons go in from the bottom, but might as well pull the head and freshen it too.Just don't know if I really want to go through that on a repainted and lookin' decent, runs OK as it is tractor.Mill the head too? If this would really wake it up I could try my hand at pulling.

Pulling will not cause you to need more horsepower, but more traction. If you are going to pull stock (out of the field) then just pull it. Check to see that your engine main and rod bearings are in fair shape. Don't over rev your engine, it only has two main bearings and is splash oiled. -- Walt

Tried it once on the transfer sled, got just a hair short of 80ft. in the 4500# class.Have 36" wheels on it.Ought to drop down to 28",but don't have any.Got a set of 24" spokes, but they look awfully short on it,looks like its going up hill.
