My Super H is missing the "belt pulley drive shaft hole cup plug" -- a cap or plug that fits in the shaft hole at the rear of the belt pulley housing housing next to the front of the transmission cover, to keep the oil in. Part is NLA from Case-IH. Has anyone substituted some sort of plug for this? The hole is not threaded, so a pipe plug won't work.

Just took a look through my H parts manual, the plug in question appears to be nothing more than a simple frost plug, or expansion plug, whatever you want to call it. Just measure the diameter of the hole and then go to most any auto parts store and you should be in business again. In fact, your Case-IH dealer probably does have this part in stock, he just doesn't know that it will also fit the Super H.

Measure the diameter of hole and go to a shop that does engine rebuilding. They usually have a good selection of expansion plugs. You could have the nut backed off or bearing bad on the other end of shaft letting it push the plug out.

I'll have to take a look at mine, never gave it any notice before, but I am wondering if maybe an engine frost plug might work? I'll get back to you, heading out to look.

Just went out and took a look, now I am confused, None of the 3 Hs I looked at even have a hole that would need a plug, my M however does use a 1 1/2 inch frost plug in this hole. Is the belt pulley unit for a super H different from a regular H?

The frost plug thing occurred to me shortly after I posted. My CRS seems to be getting worse. Both my H, M and Super H parts book show this part, the M and Super H have one the 1941 H does not, so there was a change somewhere along the line. I got a 1 3/16 expansion plug from NAPA and installed it -- think it's ok but haven't started the tractor yet. I think the previous owner worked on it and for some weird reason did not install the plug. Perhaps the shaft did knock it out, but everthing is tight now. It leaked when I got the tractor, didn't think much about it, thought the pulley seal was shot so I replaced it, made another puddle then found there was no plug. Thanks for the replies.
