I have a w-4 that I'm restoring, I have been told it is a 1941 from the original owner, I checked it against the serial number on this fourm and it comes up a 1951. Is there another way to comfirm its date? I need to get the proper decales. The serial num is WBH 27408 W I. Thank you for any help!

Bob

Bob, I've passed up this thread for 3 days now, and each time an image appears in my deranged mind. If I hadn't stopped to read the content of the post, I might have inferred that by the title wording, that you were trying to get our opinion on whether it be proper to take your W4 to the movies or bowling, or maybe the prom. I'm glad I read it because it brought out a big "WHEW".

Thanks for all the help! I guess it is a 1950. Now I can order the decals and front insignia plate.

Thanks Bob

The "original" owner should know unless he has alzimer's. Let's see if he was 20 when he bought it in 1941 he could be 83 now -- possible. Look for a number on the castings such as 3*9*K for 1941 (March 9 1941) or 6*10*U (or W) for 1951. The clutch housing containing the serial number could have been changed.

All the casting have 7/31/T on them. Any idea what the T may indicate?

I see what you mean about the "dating" thing, I had a good laugh at that LOL!!!

Thanks Bob

If you double check this site, it also comes up as 1950. 1950 is probably correct, as many previous owners have no idea, and just repeat what they've been told.
