I am just about to paint my '53 Super H and noticed that just about everything was painted red before. Should the starter be black instead of red? Any input would be great on any item on the Super H that should be a different than red.

Is your SH a first or second stage? Mine is a first stage like the one in the photo (I got this from one of the kind gentlemen on this forum - and I store it for the day I begin to paint). Which end of Iowa are you on? Perhaps I'll have to come see it when you are finished!

Eric-

I am in SW IA, Red Oak to be exact. I plan on painting the Super H next week. My Super is a first stage H.

JD, Unless your front bolster has been replaced, you have a stage II SH.

You can't tell for sure if it is a Stage II by the front bolster with the different casing (with cultivator quick mounts). I have a late 1953 Stage I Super H with the Stage II front bolster casting without the Stage II live hydraulics. Roger

Mine has got non-live hyd. I always thought that the stage II had live hyd., I could be wrong though....

Only thing that shouldn't be red is the rim of the steering wheel, spark plug wires, distributor cap (and coil cover of magneto). Everything else is red, even overspray on the fan belts. Gearshift knob was originally sprayed red too, wiring harness sprayed red.

Mask off data plate of generator and starter - should be a small oval. Also mask serial number plate of tractor.

Someone will chime in if I missed anything...
