I've got an H with a "250 Do-All" all hydraulic loader mounted on it. The loader and 3pt hitch is powered by a pto pump. Problem is, I want to run a 3pt mounted brush mower... and the pump is in the way.

I know I could use the lift-all pump to run the 3pt- but I don't want to constantly remove the pto pump when I want to hook up to the mower. I don't think the lift-all pump has enough capacity to run both the loader and 3pt.

So the question is: Can I run the pto pump off the side belt pulley pto? I know it won't be "live" but it will make the tractor much easier to start in the winter- at least I can let the engine warm up before I turn on the hydraulics.

Or should I mount a pump off the side of the engine and run off the crankshaft pulley? How can I disable the system for cold weather use?

I have a loader and a 3 point on a M and I run both at the same time. I have a 2 spool valve with one lever for the loader and one for the hitch. It work great. To do this you hook the valve to one side of the liftall and you put a notch on the liftall rod so you can lock it in the up mode. When you are driving the tractor you can put it back in nutral. I ran the return into the drain plug hole and put an extra quart of oil in the liftall and it is the next best thing to live hyd. If you are going to run a mower, you would be wise to put a overrun coupler on the pto shaft. A bush hog acts like a fly wheel and will push you places you don;t want to go. good luck

The belt pulley drive runs faster than the PTO - I think around 1100 RPM or so (don't know for sure).

Here is a picture of a shaft that slides into the PTO pump and has a bolt that tightens and holds the shaft in the pump to run other implements:

It works good for us on the farm, running the auger or feed wagon without having to take the pump off.

I'm still looking for a better way to drive my pump - thinking maybe the trucking industry has a "flex" drive shaft that I could run direct off the crank and hang the pump out in front...

Is the shaft in your PTO pump hollow? Some are, and if this is what you have, you can get a long, splined extension that slips on the tractor PTO shaft, and then the pump slides onto the long spline, which is long enough that it sticks through the pump enough that you can attach a PTO shaft to it to power an implement. It's kind of an awkward system, and probably not the safest, but it does work.

I run my loader and my 3 point off of the belly pump in the H. I simply routed the supply line up to the light bar and installed a valve and a tee. If I want to use the loader I turn the valve to direct the flow to the loader or to the 3 point. It actually works well.

I'm sure you could run a pump from the belt pully, but the connections would all have to be fabricated. Either direct coupled or with a roller chain would probably work.
