is there an additional piece to mount a tongue from a "c" [no year] to a "230"[no year], or wasn't it made to attach to a "230"?

If your 230 has the fast hitch, the standard C drawbar won't attach. they did make a standard 2 point draw bar for the fast hitch and a swinging drawbar as well, but they are different. You would have to remove the fast hitch to install the standard drawbar assy on the 230, but it would bolt up just fine.

Stan- thankyou! I agree with removal of fast hitch
however, I'm not clear if there was a component made to bolt in between the tongue craddle[which I see bolts to side of tractor housing]and tractor belly were there are four bolt holes. Also, I thought there may have been a provision for a pin to secure the tongue at its forwardmost end.? If not factory made, or available, we could "space" something in. Comments please. Thanks again, jim greene.

From the parts book, the piece that bolts to the tranny is the 'drawbar'. It has two bolts in front and two in back to attach to the tranny. Height in back is somewhat adjustable by using one of two sets of holes. Drawbar is almost a square shape made from maybe 3/8 to 1/2" steel, with ears that stand up verticaly in the back for the hight adjustment bolt positions. It has the standard horizontal drawbar setup on the rear with 6 or 7 holes. In the front it's a little curved with provision for the pin to secure the swinging drawbar.

The 'swinging drawbar' is made from C section stamped steel that rides under the back of the drawbar and curves up under the tranny to where it pins at the front of the drawbar mentioned earlier.

The 'swinging drawbar hitch plate' is maybe 3/4 to 1" thick flat steel bar that bolt up in the C channel of the swinging drawbar. It has several pairs of holes drilled to allow variable spacing from the tractor to the hitch point.

And just to add to the confusion ;) there is also a fast hitch drawbar (a U shapped piece with the two points to plug into the fast hitch), and a fasthitch swinging drawbar that mounts with the drawbar to give about the same functionality as the original setup. If you're going to do heavy drawbar towing (like disking, etc) then I would recommend that you go ahead and switch over to the standard drawbar. I've seen to many worn out fast hitches because of the heavy towing done using the hitch (which replaces the drawbar, instead of having provision to work with a standard drawbar the way most 3 pnt hitches do).

STAN- THANX SO MUCH FOR THE INFO! BECAUSE OF THE GREAT DETAIL,LET ME BACK UP A BIT. FIRST OFF- THE 230 IS AT MY BROTHER'S HOUSE, SO I CAN'T EASILY CHECK/COMPARE THE DETAILS.SECONDLY, I BOUGHT THE SRAIGHT DRAW BAR FROM A GUY AT WORK WHO SAID "IT IS FROM A "C". SO I MAY BE TRYING TO COMPARE APPLES TO ORANGES. EITHER WAY, I'M SURE WE'LL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS PROVIDED I DON'T THROW TOO MANY CURVES IN THE MIX. THE 2 BOLTS FRONT, 2 BOLTS REAR WITH HIEGHT ADJUSTABLE[SOMEWHAT] EARS SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT SO FAR. IN OUR DRAWBAR'S "CRADLE" , IT HAS THESE SIDE MOUNTING HOLES.I'M NOT CLEAR ON THE "SWING DRAWBAR HITCH PLATE". THIS MAY BE WERE OUR BAR IS "DIFFERENT".THE 230 HAS FOUR 1/2"-13 HOLES ON THE TRANNY BELLY- AND THIS IS WHERE THE QUESTION COMES IN. IF WE BOLT UP THE ABOVE MENTIONED SIDE HOLES, THAT LEAVES US WITH THIS MYSTERIOUS SPACE OF ABOUT 8" TO WHERE WE WOULD BOLT THE FOUR TRANNY BOLTS. A SKETCH WOULD HELP HERE- SORRY.ALSO, BECAUSE THE QUICK- HITCH IS STILL ATTACHED[UNTILL BROTHER IS CONVINCED MY "PLAN" WILL WORK, IT'S STAYING], IT IS A LITTLE HARDER TO SEE IF THINGS LINE UP.THE PIN -I CAN'T RECALL IF THERE IS A PROVISION ON THE BELLY FOR THIS....THE BAR/WITH Q.H. ASS'BLY SOUNDS A LOT EASIER, HOWEVER I AM AIMMING TO PULL THIS TRACTOR AND AS YOU MENTIONED, THIS IDEA MAY STRAIN OR PREMATURELY WEAR THE ASS'BLY[ ALSO PROBABLY NOT LEAGAL]. WELL, THIS HOBBY FARMER NEEDS TO GET TO BED. THANKYOU AGAIN! JIM G.

Jim,
I just looked it up on my parts CD, and the drawbar's major parts (everything I listed above) all have the same part number for the C/Super C/200/230/240 Farmall models. It also states you will need (2) 5/8 x 1 1/2" bolts and (2) 5/8 x 1 3/4" bolts to attach it. Both coarse thread (5/8x11NC). Hope that helps.

stan- thanks again for the info! i had my brother over last night to review your info. do the bolts [coarse 5/8] fit the side of tranny? because i'm quite sure the bottom holes are 1/2-13.i think this is where that 3/4" plate comes into play[ we do not have this component,] the cd info saying the five models use the same part[s] numbers help me- provided the drawbar is indeed from a "c". i don't know when i'll get back to look at his tractor to continue checking it out, but i do check this web as often as i can. he's not as enthusiastic as me. once the weather breaks here in erie, pa, we'll get the bug to monkey around. i'm still waiting for feedback from the guy at work about the plate/ spacer. thankyou! jim greene

Jim,
I went out and checked the bolts in the lower side of the tranny case on my 230 and they are 5/8" coarse (checked them with a tap and die set). I can scan and email you the picture from the parts book and one of the setup on my Super C if you like, that would be easier than trying to visualize this stuff. Drop me a line at srbheadlight at yahoo dot com (sorry, but trying to cut down on all the automated junk mail).

Jim,
Haven't seen an email from you so I just loaded the picture over in the Tractor Parts and Pieces in the Galleries area. Hope it helps,
Stan(VA).
