Would anyone like to guess why the highest bid was only $3,650.00 for this tractor? I expected it to sell for $6,000.00+, considering how rare they are. Did I miss something that would devalue the tractor? BTW its Ebay #3802460284. What is the going price for a MV in this condition?

Thanks,
Glen

I was watching your bids- I thought it would have gone for at least $4500. It was really complete with the heavy duty hitch and the front axle was in nice shape.. I think you would have better luck at a big collector auction in the midwest. The high crops seem to bring big bucks- Auuman auctions? I saw a SHV go for $10,000 completely restored. MV's were bringing $5000 or so in a restored condition. I thought those prices were nuts!

It's simple. People aren't going to pay premium price for something sight-unseen, regardless of its rarity, how glossy the pictures are, or the description. From the sounds of the discussion so far, the tractor is far from being in premium condition.

Rarer still are people who will pay premium price for something even if it is in premium condition AND isn't being bought sight-unseen. Few people are going to pay $6000 for an old M.

Glen , the IH high crops are one of the most "oversold" IH tractors (my opinion)....this one needs A LOT of $$$ spent (LOT !) on it to become a "high $$ Tractor" ..... & it's not "extremely" rare , 1674 total were made.... comparisons = W450D in IA needing little more than paint is still FS at $2650 (1108 made)..... i have a 350W ("Minty tractor") still FS @ $3650 (only a few hundred made)..... & i still have an excellent SW6TA FS @$4350 (one of an estimated 100 or so with both IH hyd's & P.Stearing)..... ....it's not always No's -but what people "want" , and most stuff is "oversold" on E-bay (my opinion again!)

wow it is a cool tractor but it needs a lot of work for that kind of money. average tractor guy can not afford to buy a tractor for that kind of money then have to buy new tires fix all dings and find a new casing where it was welded if there going to restore it. then you have to paint it. Looks like it is missing part of the air breather tube that goes to the in-let of the carb. It also is missing the battery box. Then there is the tranny and clutch problems. I know I don't really want to tear apart the tranny it could be simple or it could be a mess in there.
clutch is not a big problem to replace but still alot of work to be done after it is bought. with some time and $$$$ it would be a nice tractor
hope it sells for you.

Reading the description it isn't worth that much -- too many patches. The fact that the seller says it runs good doesn't mean much, could be any number of things wrong with it. In my mind it should not have brought more than about $2500. If it was an M and not an MV, maybe $1000 tops -- it probably needs $8000 worth of work before it's worth $6000.

Good grief, I thought that was pretty good, maybe there aren't enough "collectors" out there to make it work. Most of us can't afford to buy a hard to find tractor and then just sit on it cause it is what it is. We buy them to use or make a buck on by passing it on. Good luck, and hope you get what you want. I've been watching it too, and thought it was doing pretty well, but I don't know anything about the high clearance tractors. Harley
