Well I decided today to start putting the C back together so i can get it running. I took the head and cleaned it and the valves some more, checked for a good seal on the valves, all checked out ok. I put the rocker bar on, on the bench in our shop. The bolts that hold it on are kind of bent...so putting it on is hard. You have to tap each side with a hammer until it goes all the way on... Carried it out to the tractor, lugged it up and set it in place, dropped it down on the bolts. I went to put the head nuts on..only to realize that the rocker bar was in the way. I tapped the bar bakc off (30 mins) and put the head nuts on, oh by the way, what should the torque be on the nuts? (1949 C (gas)? I then dropped the pushrods in, but not before cleaning them up nicely. Set the rocker bar back on, and tediously taped it down, only to find that although it was down,4 of the pushords were not aligned with the rockers, so Ihad to tap it back up a half inch! arrgggghhh!Anyways, got the head on, rockers, pushrods..the whole thing. i went to take the alternator off to find that th previous owner had chopped up the adjusting bar (more welds than the eiffel tower) to fit the alt. So Im going to need one of them. I beat the alternator off with a sledgehammer...only to later reconcile with the fact that i had destroyed the mounting bolt that holds the gen. on..( long one) Need one of them as well. Now I just need to get the water neck on, get a manifold, some gaskets, a carb kit..dont know what carb I have though.., 2 brake shoes, brake springs, a new tool box, seat bracket, shock, spring and pan..A magneto (H4?) and the above misc parts that I found today...and Im riding! oh, and a intrument tower base.. Still dont know of the condition of the hydraulic system, or the tranny, but I know the clutch is good!
