I had my M out today and it started running bad and I noticed the carb was dripping and when i took the air hose off the carb about a half a quart of fuel poured out. so i took the carb off and opened it to find the float sitting in the fuel bowl. has any one had this happen? the shaft it rides on looked like there may have been a peice missing from one end. the shaft the float rides on be just long enough to catch each arm for it to hang. does this sound normal or should i go buy a new shaft.

thanks Mike

I don't remember anything on the end of the shaft, but I haven't had my M carb apart lately. On the similar Super H carb one end of the bracket the shaft goes through is split below the hole, you might try pinching that together, if yours is that way. The shaft should be tight and not easily pushed out from that side.

The shaft should extend about 1/8" or more past each arm that holds it. Not very much.

Make sure the arms aren't bent much wider than the float.

Sounds like you need a new shaft. They come in most carburetor kits.
