There's a listing on Ebay for an M&W Governer with a starting price of $150. What's special about this item, when Farmall governers bring so much less?

The M&W govenor used 4 weights rather than the 2 from IH. The M&W sold their performance parts to the Hershal Adams Co. Included in the sale was a 1948 M that had all the parts they made for an M, Hand clutch, overdrive,Intake manifold Govenor, Dual carburators and more. This tractor is now owned by a guy from Iowa

The M&W rebuild kit made the governor more responsive, thus improving the performance of the tractor. The M&W company made several improvement/modification items for the Farmall M and H, and although the company is still in business today, they no longer produce any of those performance items. This makes the M&W Farmall items very desirable, thus driving up the price.

I have heard of the M&W govenor but have never seen a tractor with one on it. What do you mean by more responsive? More response to small changes in the throttle, more response under load, perhaps allowing the engine to maintain rpm better and not lug down as easily?

CNKS - Technically the M&W governor has higher gain than stock. Means it has less "droop" (RPM drop) between no load and full load at all speed settings.

The M&W doesn't make any more power, but it makes the tractor a lot more snappy under variable load/variable throttle operation. One of my tractors (the SM) has an M&W governor - I like the way it works!

My interpretation of what you said is that it will maintain a higher rpm, or perhaps arrive at that rpm faster under light load -- correct me if I am wrong. But, no load idle speed on the H/Super H is 1815, governed full load speed is 1650 -- does "less droop" mean that the full load speed with the M&W is greater than 1650? Probably not, because I would suppose that with the same max load with both govenors, the rpm would be the same if both engines have the same HP, that is they would lug down to the same full load rpm. I always like your answers.
