Hello, Thanks for your replies regarding my TT 10-20 Crawler, after all the help I found that she is actually a 1929, not a 31' After sleeping on it this weekend I decided to sell her, so she is up for auction on ebay as of Monday nite. Thanks Craig Smotzer

These are not an experimental tractor. While it may be true that IH was using this tractor to try out the market, that's not what an experimental tractor is. Experimentals are essentially prototypes that the company uses to develop the technology, a few at a time. Your 10-20 Tractractor's a rare tractor (1500 produced, quite a few were recalled and disassembled), but it's not a experimental tractor.

true expermental tractors have production runs of upto maybe a dozen or so tractors with one-off or non production line parts not a production run of 1500 units

I have a few friends in Kansas that do nothing but restore crawlers, the know this tractor very well and said that this was known as the McCormick Deering "Experimental" tractor, as they were feeling out how to build a crawler. Maybe I got some bad info, but these guys are very sharp when it comes to old crawlers. When I bought it I called them before the auction and they said to buy it for there were only 1500 produced between 1928 and 1931, 2 weeks later everyone that has ever heard of one has e-mailed me and confirmed that to be true. So I would have to stand behind thier statement to be true that this was an experimental tractor. I deal with Heavy Equipment on a day to day basis, when I lived in Nevada, Caterpillar came up with an experimental Motor-Grader which was the 24H, The first one in the USA was demo'd at Barrick Goldstrike Mines (i'm told). If you have different info, please share it with me THANKS

I also have a Model 20 TracTracTor, but it was not an experimental tractor. IHC made them for at least 3 years. They have a higher production total than many other well known variants, like Fairways and Orchard types. There is period literature advertising them for sale. The Company didn't do that for experimental stuff! Just because they weren't real successful does not label them as an experiment. Too many phrases like that get tossed out and when seen in print are taken as factual. I know that Guy will agree that so much erroneous info gets out that it's hard to stem the tide. Sorry to vent my spleen, but I have heard stuff like that for years and sometimes I have to knee-jerk. I apologize!
