The list goes on and on it seems with my 'new' tractor..fixed my radiator, cleaned out gas tank (which was very clean), etc etc. My M has new dist cap and rotor and plugs about 6 months ago, I bought it after that, it purrs like a kitten when first started and runs great, however after about 3-5 minutes at the lowest idle, it starts to miss and run rough and if the throttle is not advenced it will quit running, it will clear up, (mostly), if I advance the throttle to 1/3 or so. I put new plug wires on it today but it did not change how it runs. Sure would like to get rid of this rough idle when warm problem. Where do I start?? I searched the archives but did not see a similar problem, lots of rough idle post but not like mine, thanks in advance.

my super m just started to idle rough like the one you are describing and it runs good when you open up the throtle and need power from it. I was just wondering if you found out or not if your manifold was cracked

Well this seemed almost too easy....went outside this A.M. and started the M....after 1-2 minutes it started idling rough again, I did the propane test several times and found no evidence of a leak. I wanted to try to play with the idle screw, there are 2 screws on the top of the carb, right by each other, one comes straight out of the side of the carb and the other one points out and forward at about a 45* angle, the latter one is the one I adjusted (45* angle one), I started to screw it in and the tractor instantly cleared up while at idle, I ended up turning it in one full turn, thats where it seemed to the run the best. Which screw did I adjust?? And what is the other screw right next to it? I beleive the screw on the bottom of the carb is the main jet, I did not touch it at all. THX Rick

Since it clears up when you increase the throttle you may have a cracked manifold or a leaky manifold gasket that only open up when they get warmed up.

An easy no sweat check when it warms up and is running rough take a propane torch, without lighting it open the valve and move it around all over the manifold. If the engine smooths out when the propane gets to it then you have the answer.

GOOD LUCK

hmm, I was just about to say it may be a cracked manifold...lol..john your quicker than me!!!

Seriously, its the fact that it only does it when its warmed up....Try the propane test, if its not that, then youve eliminated a whole possibility!
