Scott, the manual calls for the float on the Carter carb to be set as follows:
Top of float 11/64 inch +- 1/64 below top surface of upper body casting. If memory serves correctly this roughly translates to "level" when float is against needle valve. If you would like to post your email I can email you a copy of the manual of the Carter UT in pdf format. Hope this helps...

FC: I hate to be nosey but I am currently refitting my Carter UT carb and I would any information about setting the floats or anything for that matter that will help me with my carb. I do not have a manual for the the carb except for the info in the parts manual. I would really appreciate any info for my carb. Thanks from Nova Scotia way!
