wardner thanks for the info. sure enough the missing one goes behind the cam gear. the problem is i already have have the cam,oil pump, vavles flywheel etc. installed and the engine is mounted on the tractor. is there anyway i could get that plug in without taking apart the engine? is it possible to take the cam gear loose without removing the cam? is it possible to turn in the tappets and loosen the cam and just slide it forward an inch or 2 with out removing the valves?

I would appreciate any thoughts to correct this

thanks Mike

If you are talking about the small allen head that fits just behind the cam gear I believe there is a small hole in the cam gear so you can access it, you do not have to remove the engine from the tractor to do any of this, I did the same thing once, sent the block to machine shop to be cooked and rebored put it all back together NO OIL PRESSURE but with the tractor running and the lid off the oil filter I could see oil flow that thing like to drove me crazy, machine shop forgot to put plug back in and I forgot to check behind them. It was a real bummer because it was already blasted and painted, sure hope I don't make either one of those mistakes again. Rex

Mike,

Look on the bright side... you don't have the front pulley on yet! Yes, as you know, you'll have to pull the engine to remove the clutch, flywheel, oil pump and key, and all the valve stuff before you can move the camshaft.

DANG! That's a tough break.

I got in on this discussion late and I may have missed something. If the plug you are talking about is the rear cam plug ,it just drives in from the outside. You'll have to pull the engine back loose and remove the flywheel and tap it in. If that is not what you are refreeing to ,then just ignor me,as I probably am just lost..
