Unhooking a loader bucket?

Ive got an old Shawnee front end loader on my 300U. Its real big and heavy and the bucket is probably the heaviest part of it. The loader is also bent, so when the bucket is down one end of it is up about 4 inches. The bucket is about 4 foot wide and made out of 1/4 inch plate and thicker in other areas. Its held on with pins, including the cylinder in the middle. I can probably get it off with no problem, driving the pins out with a hammer. What I'm worried about is that I'll never get it lined up again to get it back on. Does anyone have some ideas before I do this? Sure would be nice to lighten the old girl up a little and not have that big bucket out front when I'm doing other things like brush hogging.

You won't know until you take it off, but it's probably not be as bad as you fear. Once you get the first pin in you can raise or lower the arms to line up the other ones. A come-along can help with the fine adjustments.

Hi, used to take bucket off 434D all the time.

Two methods we used:

1)If the ground is soft, drive the prongs of the bucket into the ground like the letter P.
2)Find a level area and just drive the pins out.

In your case since your frame is bent you would have to put 4" under one side of the bucket or dig a hole 4" deep for your rear wheel to go in.

Also it helps a lot when reinstalling the bucket if the pins are tapered. Removing the bucket will make a tremendous diffence in the handling of the tractor.

Good luck
JB
