Just got home from an auction near Auburn,Indiana.
The SMTA for sale was a very nice one. Straight metal and obviously not used much. Had been repainted pretty well, but not perfect. The real shocker.....it sold for $9900.00 !!!! Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been there.

And everyone was shakin their head when I ran mine to $4600! I was shakin my head too, but it was a family tractor. I just raised my hand and didn't take it down until he said "sold". I like it tho.....

One sold for $9500 near me over the winter..... .....Wasn't there to see it sell, but heard about it long afterwards and still is a discussion..... .

And we use ours(What are we thinking?????) Was actually a nice tractor right after restoration, but after seeing feed grinder duty and being the main tractor on the farm for many years it is showing its wear..... ..... .But to tell you the truth it is just to great of a tractor to let set in the shed!

I think the key words were "obviously not used much". I wouldn't pay $9900 even if I had the money, but SMTA's are appreciating in value. If the paint job had obvious flaws in it, that would lower the value in my mind, I would rather have rust and paint it myself. Steel Wheel Ranch has a couple of stuck ones that Mike wants $1500 for. I would think an SMTA as described (assuming it is not restored) would bring more like $3500, perhaps $6-$10000 fully restored, depending on who wanted it.

It IS amusing sometimes to see these people get carried away at auctions. Only trouble is it does tend to drive the asking price up on the others for sale (or maybe that's the plan). Once the rumor gets out that MTA's are bringing $10K, 90% of the guys who own one start believing it. When I was looking for mine almost everybody I talked to who had one told me that they had "turned down" $8-10,000 for it a "few years back". It's amazing how they sit on the photo ads for months at a time at half that price, isn't it?

Yes, and they weren't bringing $8-10000 a few years back, either. Doesn't matter, they are still out of my price range anyway, unless I get lucky.
