Hi, I was wondering if anyone as actually ever seen a Farmall Super A-1 (NOT AI - Industrial) and do they have any pictures of them somewhere. I know they are rare, but I cannot find any pictures of them anywhere on the internet or find anyone who actually owns one? I may have found one and I wanted to make some visual comparisons. Thanks Ramon

Serial number on A-1 was on clutch housing not under the seat.

They look identical to any other Super A. But they are some slight differances. The radiator on the A-1 is a few inches taller so the grill is taller and the hood and gas tank set higher. It is a very slight differance and I doubt that if you had a SA and an A-1 side by side that you would really notice it. The larger radiator goes with the larger engine and it will have a water pump. But a lot of Super A's have had the water pump retrofitted so that is not allways a good indictator of the larger engine. The serial number is your best bet on identification.

Tim, So to summarize, the following items would be different on a Super A-1(this on a rebuild, they would have different part #'s)
1. Radiator
2. Water Pump
3. Grill
4. Engine (due to 123 ci)

Any other items that would be different? Would the rest of the parts be the same as a Super A? What changes did they make with the 100 versus the Super A-1? As regards the engine, would parts for a 100,130 or 140 be interchangeable with the Super A-1 since they share the same size engine? Anyone out there actually have one or restore one?

Thanks Ramon

Ramon: The most noticable difference is the raised hood. On a regular SA the fuel tank is about 3/4" above the hydraulic unit whereas on the A-1, 100, 130 and 140 this measurment increases to about 2-3/4". This being because of the higher radiator. Contrary to what Tim has siid it is very noticable. It actually makes the tractor look higher and shorter. The regular Super A was much more attractive and sleek looking. That sleek look never returned until the newer 140 with the 06 type grill with about 4" longer hood than SA-1, 100 and 130. If you watch the market today regular Super A and 140 with the 06 type grill are the ones that command the price in the market. Yet the rare tractors are the SA-1, 100 and 130. Not that the 100 and 130 are so rare, but not near the numbers as SA and 140. There were 1,957 SA-1, about 12,000 to 15,000 each of 100 and 130, slightly over 100,000 SA and about 75,000 140. Who says looks doesn't count.
