Center of Balance IH424?

I'm ready to start welding up my tandem axle trailer and need to position my center spring bracket for tongue weight.

Anyone know approx location for the center of gravity + - for a 424 diesel?. Full or half tank and incidentals I'm not too concerned with, but with standard options. If I can get a ball park tongue weight I can live with it.

Thanks.

To find the center of gravity on any vehicle.Multiply your rear axle weight by the wheel base divided by the gross weight. This will give you the c/g measurement from the front axle. RAW X WB / Gw = cg measurement from front axle.

What length trailer are you building? Is it for road use? If so, I would find a professional built trailer already built for the purpose to which you are going to make yours and pretty much copy the critical dimensions. You can pretend you are buying it and measure it up. Build big enough so you have some room to position your tractor for best load balance.

10 Ft. Just long enough to drive in the tractor, it's just for emergency anyway not for long hauls. Short frame I know, but I'm using 3in X 1/4in box on 2 K car axles (2000 lbs) so I got to keep the weight down.

I could easily balance it on 2 hefty I beams over a 4 X 4 but none is available.

Thanks.
