H not running

I have a 47 H that ran great last fall. The wiring was kind of shaky and kept it from cranking all winter. I rewired it today so it will crank like mad, fires once in a while, maybe one cylinder or all 4 or anything between, but won't run. Some fuel drip from the carb after a minute or so of total cranking (3 or 4 tries). Last year I adjusted the valves for the first time since I got the tractor. Prior to the valve adjustment, this was SOP with this tractor if it sat for even a week, but since them, it started and ran great.
The question is should I do an ignition tune-up or look elsewhere for the problem?

Crank for a minute or so you say then gas running out of carb sounds like flooded to me. Just give it a pull before you burn up the starter.

I would be checking the fuel system first, anything that sits seems to get fuel obstructions and settling of sh%$ and moisture accumulation. I would remove both the float bowl and sediment bowl to clean. Be sure the fuel flows freely from the sediment bowl and fuel line. Gas line de-ice in the fuel will help if it's moisture.

A little hint I learned a few years back, (I repeat it often here) for stuborn starters I like to connect two tractors together with their pullys by a belt. Use the fans to determine direction. This saves wearing your starter drives and ring gear. You can fool with stuff while it's up at full speed. good luck.

First, get rid of the old fuel, then clean the points with 600 grit or a dollar bill, wipe out the distributor cap and then try again.
The spark plugs may be wet by now, too.
Look down this forum to the question about an H carburetor. More info there.
Good Luck and Happy Easter

I had the same problem with an H about 2 weeks ago, it was used every week last year but went to start it and wouldn't even pop. getting plenty of gas and cranking on 12 volt. had great spark out of the plug wires to ground. replaced the spark plugs and it fired right up. weird thing is the old plugs werent wet and still looked good. Just a thought.
