Did Farmall make any changes in their diesel engines between the SM and the 450. I'm thinking of buying one. Just wondering how much difference the model makes on these.

Failed to mention pistons, from factory SM,400
4 inch, 450 4 1/8 inch. 4 1/8 could be used in SM
and 400.

Dave WV, forgive me if I have broken a rule but I am new to this site. I could not find the location to start a new post. I read your responses and it seems you are very knowledgable with these diesels. I have a 450 that ran poorly on diesel and I found the injection gear missing a large number of teeth. I replaced the gear but I had the injector off for a year before I could reassemble. Now I can bleed the filters, start the engine on gas and the fuel pressure needle is pegged BUT I do not get any fuel to the injectors. Seems there is something stuck in the injector pump that is not letting any fuel through? Any idea's before I start searching for a new pump? Thanks for any insight you can provide. Again, I am sorry for jumping in on this discussion. Rambo

Several small changes. main changes SM and some 400 used type A injection pump and orifice type injector nozzle. Later 400 and 450 used type B pump. Late 400 and 450 used open type nozzle. SM used a friction disc in throttle,400 450 didn't.SM choke rod hooks on inside of carb, cable on outside 400 450.Other things, head #s, water jacket cover plates, fuel filters, idler gear, rear
main seal,exhaust pipe longer 400 450.Most parts
can be added to all engines.
