Thanks guys. Well, the fuel pump did not fix the problem. It appears it's all in the carb. The tractor will run great wide open, but the choke must be fully closed.. AND runs great at idle with the choke fully open. Shouldn't be that way, but at least I got the fields mowed. haha. It's just a pain to have to move the choke depending on whether I'm at idle or full speed. Plus, with the choke closed like that..it HAS TO BE really burning the gas.We didn't rebuild the carb, but did take it apart and clean it thourougly. Interesting enough, the manual says the float highth (measures from top, not bottom of float) should be 1/4". At 1/4", you can't blow air thru the valve.? We opened slightly more..about 3/8. No change. I guess I could pursue a rebuilt carb, or really rebuild this one. Don't know if it's worth any more time or money.?.. re: high speed adjustment.. There is none. Only an idle screw, and the throttle linkage.
