I have purchased a farmall M and need to be sure the trailer I take to get it is wide enough between the side rails. The rear wheels are mounted conventionally with the dished part of the cast hub bowing inwards toward the frame. If I slide the hubs all the way in on the axle, how far down can I reduce the width of the tractor??

Thanks guys. I guess it is unanimous that I will need to reverse the wheels or get a flatbed trailer. Appreciate the your time and help---

Unless you want to take the time to reverse one or both of the rear wheels, the M will not fit on a conventional car trailer. To haul any tractor safely, it needs to have the rear wheels positioned so that the axle is located directly between the trailer axles, which means that the tractor rear tires need to fit in between the trailer tires and fenders, and an M with the wheels dished out will not fit. You need to find a trailer with the wheels under the deck, commonly reffered to as a deck over, or a high deck trailer.

I load my M on a 80 inch between the fenders trailer with the hubs reversed. Otherwise I think you will be about 86 inches with hub cupped out and slid all the way in.

Jim's correct. With the hubs dished in, it will load on a standard car trailer. Dished out it will not.

An H will measure 77 inches if you push both wheel hubs in all the way. That is with 12.4 x 38 inch tires. An M should be approx. the same, but the tire size will change that. Remember you can always flip a wheel around and pick up a whole lot more.

Wrong, an M is much wider, even if the H and the M had the same size tires, the M is still wider.

Rusty: I doubt if there is any difference on minamum tread of H and M. I know H, 300, 560, 504, SM and 656 are all the same. Maximum tread will be different as the H has shorter axles. They are all the same width to the end of the axle carriers.

Nope, minimum tread on the M is 52 inches, 8 inches more than on an H, you have to reverse at least on wheel to fit it between the fenders.
