any suggestions on the best way to remove a radiator from an H? As I see it, I need to remove the steering rod that goes through the cutout in the top of the radiator, then the bolts that hold it to the frame. Anything else I may have missed?

Thats it!I would spray some pentrating oil on the two studs on the underside as they are a little tuff to get at.On my H they were so badly rusted and I since my hands arent what they used to be,I ended uo taking the whole front end of to get them out. When I pout it back on,I didnt put them back on until I knew the rad wasnt going to leak, glad I didnt, found two more aftre I got it back from the repir shop,so I just bought a new one.

Art,
I am going to be removing the rad. on my '48 H in the next few weeks too... I am thinking that the procedure you mentioned is correct. Perhaps you'll see more responses. Would be interested in your success. I puttered all Fall and Winter on this old H that hadn't run for close to 20 years. Tried it the other weekend and it started and ran just fine but... a few water leaks; rad. hoses, water jacket cover, and a pin hole in the core. Not knowing much about rads., I'm wondering if JB Weld would fix this small hole I have on the outside of the core(where something must have poked it). Anyway, good luck with your project.

Watch for cotter pins holding the nuts to the studs under the radiator. There's also the brace that goes over the valve cover. If you don't remove the fan, you will need to remove four long thin bolts that hold the shroud to the radiator so that you can lift the radiator when everything else (already mentioned plus radiator hoses) is loose. For small punctures I've had good results with a product called Seal All (a clear liquid/gel consistancy you squeeze out of a tube after surface is cleaned).

Thanks for the help - had planned to remove the radiator early next week - assuming something else doesn't get in the way.

My need to remove it is that somewhere in the radiator the passage is blocked - or it may be the pump - I won't know until I get it apart
