Woods mower on SA update

I got the new to me Woods 59 mower mounted this week. Mowed all my grass for the first time this season, now I'm looking for something else to do with all this extra time I have on my hands. That is after I get a few of the humps and hollows leveled out, in my grass.

Many thanks to all you guys giving advise and input on the mounting of this mower, coming from a Farmall BN and going to a SA. Just one little question though. I have a 90 degree turn in belt coming from mower deck to flat idler. I have a 270 degree turn in belt going from V idler back to the mower deck. I have followed the various courses of the belt and everything is as diagram calls for. My thoughts are that the extra 180 degrees on that return side is a must, as there is no way to remove a 180 degree turn without a corresponding 180 degree turn in the opposite direction somewhere else on belt. Am I missing something? This mower was and is driven by the belt pulley shaft as opposed to pto shaft.

I guess the key phrase is,"it works". Sure would like to see some pictures when done. I rigged a 72" 3-point King Kutter to a pull type behind my Super A. 3rd gear full speed. Works great!

I have a woods (three blade) on a C and there are the 1/4 and 3/4 twists that you mentioned on mine as weel. I got it new and this is how it is shown in the mounting instructions.

mwkellner: Thanks for that, I have studied that belt set up and decided there was no other way. I bet I spent 4 hours looking at it over the past five days. One would think a 1/4 turn or 90 degrees should be good on each side of drive. With an endless belt there is no way you can remove the extra 1/2 or 180 degree turn short of having a matching 1/2 or 180 degree turn in opposite direction somewhere else on belt. I shall not queston the wisdom of Woods, they have too many years of success. The mower is working well. Just one minor problem, and that is me, too many years farming with Live PTO.

I've never seen a diagram and have to make my own when I change the belt. Not sure I have it right yet, but it works. Apparently there is more than one way to do it. Mine has two V idlers, both the input and return have 90 degree turns between the vertical idlers and the horizontal pulley on the deck. In addition there is a 180 degree turn between the drive pulley on the belt pulley shaft and the upper or lower (don't remember) idler. I did buy a flat idler one time when I was messing with it, which would eliminate the 180 degree turn. Perhaps for the reason you mentioned, it didn't work right, so I put the V one back on. However, the turns in mine are to make the belt fit the grooves, it didn't occur to me that I was evening things out (two 90's and one 180) I'm not a physicist, but it seems to me that yours should work with only a 90 degree turn from the idler back to the deck?? Have you tried it that way?
