I remember reading on here a while back about an outfit out west that is making cummins conversion kits for IH tractors. I was wondering if anyone has any contact info on the place. I didn't think about it at the moment, but we have an old 400 rear sitting around and were thinking of finding a regular gas motor to put into it, but I'd sure think it would be a lot more useful and ecnomical with a 4 cyl. cummins under the hood - and would be a little out of the ordinary too. Since the bell housing is the same on them as the bigger tractors, I'd think tha backing plate would basically be the same as the bigger tractors.

Thanks for any info!

The cummins 4BT would be a good fit. Tricky part would be setting up the flywheel/drive spline because you have a separate shaft for the live pto.. Check out this Oliver site for cummins conversions.

The conversions that were done when those tractors was newer would have been a GM engine. Several companies did them for Farmall and Case tractors.

There was also a 400 diesel based on the IH gas-start engine. Finding an engine from a dozer, grader, or power unit might be possible but they tell me repairs are costly.
