Does anyone have a source from which I could get the approximate weight of an M Farmall. I have bought one quite a distance from my location and need to figure some way to trailer it home.

Thanks for your help.

Whew, you folks really got my head spinnin' with all the advice and experience you have had. I have an '02 Chev 1500HD running a 6L engine with an 8,000# Hudson tag-along tandem with brakes. But with the wheel width not fitting between the fenders, and the fact that I will be hauling from mid-Minnesota to the hills of east Tenn, I'm thinking I may need to find a heavier rig to use. Thanks to all for the comments. I appreciate your time and input.

I have a '49 tricycle M with one set of wheel weights and no fluid in the tires. I haul it behind a '91 F-150 short box Super Cab with the 300 CI six and a 5-speed manual with a 3.08 rear axle. I use a flatbed bumper pull dual axle trailer with 3,500# axles. It works fine. I do have electric brakes on the trailer, which I consider a must for that load. I have to turn the rear wheels with the dish in for it to fit the trailer and this is the biggest pain of the whole operation.
Just be sure your truck is in good shape and your trailer tires are rated for the load (I blew out two tires on one haul, not fun). Also be sure the trailer brakes are fully functional before you leave with the load. There are a lot of idiot drivers out there!

I used to pull my W6 (6000#) on a 16" car trailer behind an '86 F150 with a 302 EFI & OD automatic all the time. It did just fine. I agree that you should have trailer brakes. But as long as you don't get crazy, you'll be fine.

Ken Updikes International Harvester Tractor Data book list the average shipping weight at 6700. Wheel weights and or liquid in the tires can increase this to 9000 pretty easy.

You will need to dish the tires in to get it to fit between the fenders of a standard trailer. If you a trailer with the deck over the wheels then this won't be a problem. Depending on the terrain that you will be traveling through electric brakes might be a good idea. Safety is the number one priority.

you could easily haul it home behind a half ton pickup. i think the tractor weighs anywhere from 5ooo to 5800lbs. i could be wrong too. i know for sure you could haul it behind a half ton truck with a bumper pull trailer that has 3500lb. axles.

I would go with a higher capacity trailer. Most 7000 lb capacity trailers weigh about 2000 lbs, the M 5000+ depending on how it is equipped. The trailer and half ton are maxed out. I have hauled two H's that way for about 250-300 miles. It's all my half-ton wanted. Very hard on the automatic transmission.

i talking about a half ton for by four with four speed manual and an I6 with overloads. and it did just fine. my uncle hauled an m about 500 miles behind a 88 chevy half ton 4x4 with an auto and a 350 v-8 no problem.

My pickup is the same as your uncle's except it is a 92. I hauled a Super H on a 3000 lb trailer making the weight about the same as an M on a 2000 lb. Burned the trans fluid and blew it out the vent pipe. Trans is still ok because I had the fluid changed in route. Repeated use that way will fry the transmission. Also depends on whether it is flat or hilly. I hauled an H with the same pickup from Amarillo TX to Garden City KS with no problem as you say; no hills. The Super H was from NE of Topeka,KS to Garden City, that's where I had the problem. I was over the CGVW of the pickup and trailer, and that part of Kansas is not flat.

Only thing to check is to see if it has fluid in the rear tires, fluid adds a lot of weight.

wheel weights will also add easily another 300lbs. if it has any.
