I would be grateful if someone could tell me the sort of hydraulic oil to be used in an International 1486. Any idea of the amount?
Thanks

a 1486 takes 22.5 gal to the full mark, but i run my 1086 5 gal over full and i've talked to several people that do the same, i believe it has to do with keeping the oil slung over the top of the ring gear.

I use IH Hy-Tran as well. My understanding is that the genuine article handles moisture better than the generic due to additives. Maybe someone can correct my misthinking if I am wrong on this....

I don't have anything in writing, but from all I can gather the generic has the same moisture absorbing ability if it meets the specs. Possibly a different additive than the origional though.

I use the Premuim UTF from TSC, meets Hy-Tran specs and works fine for me. It is about 5.00 per gallon. Hy-tran is actually made by several different refineries around the world and as long as the proper specs for it are met in a generic I see no problems using the generic replacement. I have relatives that have been using the generic stuff in IH equipment for as long as I can remember with no transmission or hydraulic problems. My origional IH manual even states that NON Hy_tran is ok as long as it meets their specs. Use of the generic does not void your warranty either as long as it meets the Hy-Tran specs.

For me it is pay 25.00 for 5 gal of generic and drive 6 miles or pay almost twice as much and drive 1 hour each way for the Hy-Tran.
Not a hard decision for me :)
