Is the standard H a 2.25 inch rod journal size? If mine are 2.21 inches can I go with standard or are oversize necessary? I am not removing the crank so I will not be turning it. I am just putting the tractor back together with new sleeves and pistons and will be running at standard rpm.

The "H" had a change during production therefore in order to help we'll need a serial #.

bearings are available in .001 and .002 oversize, I would put the original rod and cap on one of the journals, along with the bearings that came out and plastigauge them, I am just finishing up mine, when I checked the original bearings I had about .004 with the plastigauge, so I ordered the .002 bearings, thus putting my clearance between the .002 and .003 that is called for. Ideally the best thing to do is have the crank machined and start al over, But I too did not want to pull the motor in order to machine the crank, I was just replacing pistons liners and rings.

I found the break for the different size rod journal. My 52 H is 2.2475 - 2.2485. I still have the question about doing oversized bearings. What size should I use without turning the crank if my journals are .0375 worn and I am not removing the crank. Should I use .030 (30 thousandths over) or just .020 (20 thousandsths over)?

What size shells came out of it ? How was your oil pressure before ? If the oil pressure was good, buy a new set of whatever came out. The size should be marked on the back of the old shells.

If the oil pressure was low, without a more accurate measurement (for example 2.210"), it gets really messy.

If your measurement is good, a 0.030" oversize still leaves you with about 0.004" running clearance. The rod bearing clearance is spec'ed at 0.002" to 0.003". More clearance leads to lower oil pressure. Even with excellent measurements, the clearance has to be checked with Plastigage when you put the motor back together.

My parts book shows a part number 355285R11 that is .032" undersize (sn 501 to 391357). It may or may not be available any longer. If they are not available, bearings have been shimmed up to give the right clearance. It is a process that has a finite risk of ruining the motor.

Before I put my money down for bearings, I would borrow or buy a better caliper.
