I know there are some different transmission upgrades put there for the H. What is the scoop on them? And what are my choices for live pto-hydro conversions? Lastly, is it possible to put a torque amplifier or something similar in the H? Thanks.

You can get a slower first gear and a faster 4th gear. These are two different kits but they can be combined.

I don't know what a hydro conversion is. If you are talking about replacing the gear drive with a hydro, I suppose it could be done by joining something like a 504-544 hydro back end to a H motor and using H sheetmetal. Sounds like a waste of two good tractors and you won't be fooling anybody.

The same goes with the TA, live hydraulic, and live PTO. There are a number of HTAs that have been built but they don't fool anybody.

Nine speeds are available. Place a want-ad here at YT.

"The same goes with the TA, live hydraulic, and live PTO. There are a number of HTAs that have been built but they don't fool anybody." the purpose of modifying tractors is not to "fool" anybody it is to gain more versatilaty.

an "ta" unit would need to be swapped out from a 300.

"live pto-hydro conversions? " live hyd. is pretty simple to add,. What you would do is add a distributer pump.

If you want more versatility, sell the H and buy a 300. You will have bought a 300 anyway to get all the parts you need to make a HTA. Dressing it up to look like a H is silly and will compromise the hydraulic system. I still hold that HTAs are an exercise in deceipt and the product of time misspent.

When you buy the 300, you will have two tractors. Not one HTA and a mess of disassembled parts.

You can't "swap out" a TA from 300-330-340-350-460-504-544-606-656 etc and install it in H castings.

What is involved with putting a TA and a distributer pump in an H? What about cost? Thanks.

"What is involved with putting a TA and a distributer pump in an H? What about cost? Thanks" ditributor pump will run you about $300-$600 (alot cheaper then buying a 300..) and putting it is pretty simple if I had a picture I could show you...

wardner.. It is his tractor I don't see how it concerns you what others do with their tractors is it such a crime to make do with what you have? most people don't have the money to buy a tratcor with all the features so they buy an older one and customize it. oh by the way I own an '53 SH with two way hyd. and a 400 with backlit gauges are you going to chew me out for "decieving people" you are worst then a JD pureist,

As noted earlier, you cannot install a TA in a H. You can build a "HTA" by joining two tractors

Pumps are about $200. SH-300-350 cam gear (recommended) $50. Front engine plate (recommended) $???. Misc seals, gaskets, hoses, etc $???. Mechanical ability: moderate. Time: 8 hrs. Depends on skill level and experience.

If you need to ask these question, I would not recommend that you attempt the live pump. You may end up with a basket case that will likely litter your garage for years.

I don't want to start a fight here guys. But I do want to say that Wardner is assuming a lot. I'm 16 and just starting to get into Farmalls so I need to ask "stupid" questions. My H is a basket case anyway and I'm not doing any mods anytime soon because of money and because I don't need them. Truth be known, I live on an acre and really don't have a real need for a tractor in the first place. I just have a hyper brain and wanted some answers. That is what this forum is about, right? Having said that, let me thank you both for you help. You guys have answered my questions. I also think I've seen a photo of a distributor pump conversion. I would be able to put one on the H, if I ask the questions. You can't automatically know how to do something. We all have to start someplace.
