Was this rare on these models, I thought it was odd to be on a garden tractor.

My father installed the optional PTO unit on a Cub Cadet model 71 tractor back in 1965. The PTO required opening up the transmission to install its components, which were based on the larger Farmall Cub tractor. The 71 was then used to drive a grain elevator, one modified since the Cub Cadet PTO spun the opposite direction relative to other tractors. He said it worked very well. He still owns the 71, and it still has its operating PTO unit.

My dad bought a 124 cub cadet in 1968 with a rear PTO and hyd. lift and (NO mower deck)the cadet pto turns the same way as all cub tractors speed is 510,in this area there was a lot of them used used on chicken farms.I doint remember who made them but they had 35 gal.rear sprayers with boom arms for spraying the floors the other PTO job they had was feed augers. There biggest job though was pushing out 20 thousand pounds of chicken sh-t a week.

You see one occasionally, but they are fairly rare. At one time in some states, anything that had a pto was considered a farm tractor, and ptos were cheaper than slaes tax.

I'm not an expert but understand that they are rare. I've seen the assemblies sell on ebay alone for some $$$$. They are not useful though because they spin the wrong way when engaged. As far as I know the PTO speed is dependent on wheel speed. There was an adapter made for them that would change the direction of the spin and would increase the speed to a usable range. I'd be interested to hear how someone actually has used one. I just sold a 1200 that had the PTO on it.

Back in the late 60's and early 70's I had a gear drive Cub Cadet that I added a PTO. I had a sprayer mounted on it that I made from the alunumum tank of a RV hot water tank and a pump from Tractor Supply and a boom. I ueed it to spray my yard and it worked very good. It is the same PTO as used on the Cub. I uesd it untill I got my current 1971 model 105 Hydrostatic Cub Cadet in about 1973, which is still running strong. The PTO will not work on a Hydrostatic Cub Cadet.
