Yep, after restoring a few A's and B's I've decided to try something different. Here are a couple of questions for you Farmall guys.
First, my F-12 is missing the belt pulley. I've seen several pictures of other F12/F14's on the internet and they are also missing the belt pulley. Was there a reason for this and where is a good source for them?
Second, the block on mine has been cracked and repaired. The repair job looks pretty bad but it doesn't leak. The block # and the serial # match so I'm reluctant to replace it. If this was a common problem will I have a hard time finding a good one?
Last, are their other common problems I need to know about on this model?
Thanks in advance for your response.

I have a spare engine block. You can have if you arrange the shipping. It had a crack that was welded well and proven on a working tractor. You arrange the shipping...I am on the west coast.

Curtis, I would definitely be interested in your generous offer. Please email me and I will figure out how to get it shipped.

Thanks,

I think you will like it a lot better if you leave the belt pully off. If you just have to have one on it they are on ebay quite often. The blocks break a lot and if the repair looks bad you may be able to grind it down a little and use JB weld to smouth it out. The JB weld will do a good job and it will last. I have used it and then sanded it to look real nice. The carberators and the fuel pumps seem to be the biggest problems. The tractors seem to flood real easy and are tempramental about starting. I know some say they don't have problems starting them but I have not seen one in person that will start easy time after time. Mine will start some times easy but not every time. Other that that clean out the oil pan and the transmission, as the trans will get water in it from time, and you should be good to go. I have an F-12 and F-14 running and 2 other F-12s to fix or for parts. Good luck and enjoy.

the belt pulleys were taken off because they run all the time and tent to work like a flywheel keeping the trasmission turning when you are trying to shift gears. I have a real nice pulley but would not take less than $100 for it.

I collect the F-20's and nobody sells engine rebuild kits for these old tractors anymore. However your are able to get new engine rebuild kits for your F-12. Just wanted to pass on some good news that you may have already known. Additionally the engine on the F-12 uses babbit type main bearings instead of pressed on ball bearings. The ball bearing are a huge pain and really expensive to replace.
