Does anyone know where to look for the adapter plate for a "M" with a wide front with tie rods out front. In my manual I see that there is a plate you can get to move the front end back under the tractor so it doesn't stick out in the front so far. Any help Nick

Here on Long Island we made them. The idea was to shorten up the overall length and for loaders. It also made the turning radius shorter. If you made a template a local welding shop could make one up.
Good luck. Geoff

The axle was way out front so cultivators could be mounted under the belly. The adapter plate shoved everything back for tighter turning and loader use.

Is there any advantage to either position when mounting the wide front

Nick,

The adaptor plate is used to move the original front end out away from the tractor; not in.

Without the plate, it should mount about as far back as it will go due to that knuckle and steering arms.

If I'm wrong on this, somebody please correct?

Thanks,

Allan

Sorry Allan, you're wrong. The plate allows the front end to be mounted about 1 foot aft, toward the driver. I can't remember the exact size but the overall tractor length is shorter with the plate. My nickel Dick Davis

Gotcha Dick,

Thanks.

I 'spose a guy could find one by scouring the salvage yards; they were a very common add-on in the sugar beet areas as farmers had to use them to stretch out the tractor, which would allow room for that kicker bed & knife/flinger assembly of the IH topper.
