I have my 44 H that I just got back toghter yesterday and have everything working good on it.It does still have a slight miss but only at idle and thats getting better the more I work it.I took the 3 pt off of my 41 M that Dad and I rebuilt back in 95 as a worker and I plan to restore it now. However, yestrday afternoon,a guy came to me wanting to trade his 48 C for my H,and will let me keep the 3 pt I have on my H.the c is rusty but in real good shape, good runner, good tires, and a full set of cultivators and fertlizer attchment all in good shape.Everything on the C works good.Only problem I can find with it is the hole for the tool box under the seat has had a metal plate welded over it for some reason. If I did this trade,it would be a restoration project and I could keep using my 41 M for work until I found something else.I paid 600 for my H and now have another 400 in repairs. He tried to sell me this C for 1800 and in my opinion with the attachments its worth it.He has proposed an even trade, and is bringing the C here this afternoon for me to drive and sink those cultivators in the ground. My question is,if this tractor performs as well as I hope it will, would you trade a 44 H for a 48 C,knowing you have a tractor to fall back on for work.

You have posted on this board long enough to know that you don't need opinions for that type of question. It's whatever you want to do. If it was me, I would darn sure keep the H and buy the C, if I was willing to part with $1800. I have a Super A, C, H, Super H, and M -- and 2.5 acres including my house. I paid $1650 for my C and probably put another $3000 into it. Am I nuts? Probably. But, I'm retired and busier than I was when I was working -- and enjoy it more.

My opinion - Trade for the C and pick up another H. Might even get a Super H for less than the C would cost you. H's aren't rare with about 1/2 million built and all but three still out there chugging along.

I have a H,M and a C. They all have their own specialties. I just couldn't imagine why you wouldn't want one of each. Variety is the spice of life. The C is just the best for scuffling or manuvering implements into a shed because it steers so easily. The C and the H isn't much different in horse power but it doesn't handle the heavy jobs like spreading manure as well because it's lighter and the drawbar is not so strong. If there is the option to get the C and keep the H, go for it!

I have a 43' H that was my grandfathers and I know how sentimental value goes. I have used both an H ans Super C for planting and cultivating. The H plants better but the C turns better. Around here you can still buy running H's for less than $1000 all day. A C however rarley brings less than $2500. In Mid- Michigan lots of small horse outfits and collectors drive the price up on thes smaller series of tractors. I personally would just outright buy the C. As for your wife let her think you are crazy. I always tell mine that if I am buying and working on tractors that just means I am not in the bar or out galivanting. Good Luck

49 Cubber, how are you? In my humble opinion...I would try to buy the C and keep the H as well, I know its money but a fellow reminded me of something the other day when I was being chintzy, he said "Have you ever seen a Brink's Truck following a hearse to the cemetery?" The trade wouldn't be bad either ,bless you whatever you do ..Mike in Exeter Ontario

Cubber, Opinions are like rearends, everyone has one. Here's mine. Since you have a 41 M, you have a tractor that will do all the H would do and then some. The H is a great tractor and if not for the M, I would say keep it, but The C is much more versitle for lighter work and small jobs. The touch control hydraulic system allows you do do things better and faster than with the other tractors. If you can depend on the C being in as good of shape as the H, then you can get a lot of use out of it in spite of the horse power difference which is only 3 or 4. The C is a great cultivating tractor, and it is so much easier to mount cultivators on a C than an H. If you have loaders or other equipment for your H, it will fit your M. While I would find it hard to part with an H, given your circumstance, it would be easier, especially that you do have the M.

Obviously just opinions but if it were me and the C was in equivalent condition and I really didn't need the extra 10 or so horses I would trade in a minute . I like the varity of driving and using different tractors , plus it will do better on fuel . As far as value some would claim that with the exception of rare models from a collector point of view smaller tractors are often easier to sell and worth more. I just don't see how you can lose.

Cubber, Now you're talkin..... .Besides if your wife is anything like mine, buying or not buying another tractor wouldn't change her opinion. Mine thinks I'm nuts regardless.

You will still have the M for a workhorse, IMHO the C is more versitile than the H, So unless you need two more powerful tractors and you like the looks of the C - yes.
