I have an 1958 H. After about 10 minutes of working a two bottom plow it will die and have a hard time restarting (sometimes needs 1/2 choke to keep running)but allways after around 10 minutes. do I have a governor issue or a carb issue or both. Verified good spark. I have never had to work on an h carburetor or governor and will need a book to help me along any suggestions. Thank you for any help you can give.

Well it's not the tank or the fuel line I got after it last night and it would not start right off the bat. Agin it needed 1/2 choke to run so I took the bottom of the carb off and wow what a mess lots of rust and it seems to float is not working as is should the fuel in the bowl was very low I cleaned it up a little and reinstalled it. Still had the same thing happening but then all the sudden it started running great. I worked it for about 2 hours with out a problem. Thanks for the tip on manifold leaks I will remember that.

Lets not rule out a crack in the manifold. It takes 10 mins for it to get hot enough to expand enough to let too much air in, and will only run right when more gas is added.

Go out and get a propane torch. DONT LIGHT IT. Start the tractor, let it warm a little and run the propane over the manifold, if the idle changes any! Its a leak.

It is a 1948 H my father just turned 58 this past weekend I must have had a blond moment (hope my wife doesn't read that)I did just recondition the gas tank. I had it poly lined by an outfit in Ft.Worth Texas(they did a great job) and guess what I think I panted over the gas cap I will check this evening wile I plow to see if that is it. thank you for the help I will let you know if that is it.

My Super C did the same thing last summer. After spending a month blaming it on the carburator, I finally got desperate and shined a bright light into the gas tank and found that there was a dead bumble bee floating around in the bottom. Every once in a while it would float over to where the hole where the gas goes to the bowl and starve the motor. Once the motor shut off, the bee would move around again and the motor would run fine for 15-20 minutes.

Zach, I agree with Nebraska Cowman, you must have a fuel problem, back early in the spring I was plowing with my H and it kept cutting out, missing, etc. I put in new plugs and it solved my problem. Also you must mean a 1948 H the last year H's were built was 1953. Ed

The next time it happens just loosen the gas cap if it is the vent hole you will know right then. You could possably have some thing floating in the tank, and on a hard pull will suck down and block fuel outlet.

By the way the H was not built after 1953 Super H 53 and 54

Not only that, but in 1958, it would be a 460, not an H, Super H, or even a 300 or 350.

you are starving for gas. did you paint over the vent hole on the gas cap? make sure you have good gas flow to the carb.
