Question for Guy Fay bermuda ken

A few days ago there was a discussion on all of the models IH ever built. I would like to know what criteria you people use in deciding if indeed there is a model change. I'll give you a few examples and you tell me whether they are separate or the same model, " A and cultivission A, H and HV, 66 series and 66 series black stripe, 656 with 06 grill and 656 with 56 grill, etc. In fact all through the 60s there were numerous variations of grills. Were these all considered to be different models?

I use some of the same criteria as Guy to determine different models. When IH changed the decals/paint on the later 1970< tractors this was generally done because the tractor had some type of physical/mechanical change to it.

An example is the Tri Stripe 86 series. These have the PPH hydraulics, while the black stripes do not. VERY easy to spot a real Tri stripe from a fake.

I'm sure that some math graduate has devised a formula to determine exactly how MANY different tractor combinations COULD be built.

First off, A and Cultivision A- no- it's just a decal change.

H and HV-yes-they were considered by IH to be a seperate model, had different serial ranges, etc.

66 and 66 Black stripe- In my count, I don't think I considered these seperate, although there are good arguments that these could constitute a seperate model.

What I usually go off of is whether IH considered the tractor a seperate model as far as serial number lists, or if it was a tractor that had certain options and a different name, such as some of the "Bright Lightning" tractors in tobacco country, or the Dairy Specials overseas.
The 656 grill changes- no.
