What was the biggest and most powerful gas tractor IH made? Anyone on here prefer big gassers, or farm with them on a regular basis?? Anyone has any pros. on gassers against diesels??

I have newer and bigger tractors, but for my small farm I use a Farmall 706 gas all of the time. I really like it as it is comfortable to run, fairly heavy throughout, easy to turn sharply, and has "power" everything. It doesn't do bad on gas unless you are using it heavy. Pulling a planter, cultivating and mowing the tractor will run a couple of hours easy on 5 gallons of gas. That is at maybe 1/2 throttle. The engines do not last as long as a diesel. I have sleeved/ringed it and ringed it again during the last eight years. I am sure at full throttle pulling a disk or plow it will want to drink gas. I have heard that they are not near as bad as a 806 gas. Great tractor in my opinion. I would like to have a diesel 706 too although.

In my area gas 856s are fairly common - most are used as loader tractors and for haying. Lots of gas 7*6s and well over half the 6*6s are gas.

I know I'd prefer gassers, but with fuel prices I'll take the diesel. We have all gas tractors other than a 706D and I'll tell you, in the winter I wish they were ALL gas!

In the winter these old diesels are nothing but a PITA IMO..... ...Nothing like just hitting the switch and it is running to grind feed, no plugging it in, dead batterys, etc.....

John, The 806 was made in Gas,LP,&Diesel, Literarure said that the 856 was available..... But I have never seen one or know if any were ever produced.
The gassers are easier to start in winter time as opposed to the DSL or LP versions. For regular farm work the gassers will get into your hippocket, with gas near $2.00/gal.
Hope this helps,
John A.
PS Guy Fay would come as close as any one on answering this question.

I've got a picture of an 856 gasser that i'd post if I knew how, but I'm pretty sure they were more than rare in the first place.

This afternoon I pumped gas at over $2.00 a galllon for the first time ever for me. That can't be a good thing for big gassers.

Neighbor had an 806 gasser, pulled a 5 bottom plow. It used about 10.5 gal per hour when you worked it hard. They aren't worth much, here 3500 bucks will buy a decent one.
