Does anyone know how much torque the H puts out? You can find HP ratings but I've never seen torque. Maybe this is a crazy question! :-D Thanks.

I have a reprint of an H/W-4/I-4/O-4/U-4 power unit service manual. It had HP and torque charts in it. I think the little C-152 could crank out up to 160-170#/ft. of torque at around 1000-1200 RPM. Substantially better than 1 foot-pound per cubic inch. That's a gasoline engine on gasoline. Kerosene or distilate engines didn't do that good.

Since you mentioned it, I looked it up. The U4 power unit torque peaks at about 110 lb-ft at 1200 rpm. In the chart IH used brake HP, it peaked at about 32 HP at 1800 rpm which is the governed speed. Figures for the U6 are a little over 160 at 1000 rpm, BHP is about 42 at the governed speed of 1500 rpm.

Forgive my ignorance CNKS, I'm newish to this but is the "U4" a tractor with an engine in the same tune as the H? My I&T shop manual says the c152's max no load RPM is 1,815. And I don't remember the H having a gross brake HP rating as high as 32? Also, what is the U6?? Thanks.

Hey '52 - If you know the HP and crankshaft RPM, torque is easy to calculate:

Torque = HP x 5,260 / RPM

T = 5250 x H.P./RPM (not 5260); moot point I agree
