Got the pump apart. The 4 bolts holding the bottom of the oil pump on were loose. It appears part of the gasket was missing and what was left was paper thin. Also the bottom plate of the pump is warped somewhat. Before I took it apart I started the tractor and had 40 psi oil press. In about 5 minutes it was down to 30 psi. Do you think the pump is my problem? Can I use form a gasket to put the pump back together? Does the bottom plate have to be perfect? Also it had some wear in the plate from being loose and the gears had worn in it a little. Thanks

My I&T manual says the end clearance should be 0.0035" to 0.006".
Hope this helps.

To remove the warp from my pump and also to take care of some of the grooves where the gears rub, I got some fine grit,-sticky back- sandpaper and stuck it down on a piece flat window glass.
I laid the glass on the bench and worked the oil pump bottom back and forth and round and round till all the surface was shiny and smooth and flat.
As for the gasket, they aren't very thick anyway.
I don't remember what the clearance is suppose to be for end play of the shaft and gear against the oil pump bottom plate, but it isn't much, but you don't want it too tight so that it binds up when you try to turn the driving shaft.
I don't think I would just try Permatex without some kind of gasket to give you a little space between the oil pump body and the bottom plate. You have to have a little bit of space between the gears and the pump bottom for oil to lubricate it after everything gets hot from running and the metals expand.
Maybe someone will jump in here with some numbers on the required clearance.

Don't know if this helps you any !
