I'm replacing the clutch on my 966 and i was told to replace the shafts if they were bad. the inner shaft is somewhat worn, but the outer shaft is deffinetly worn bad. I think the inner one is part of the TA, so if thats true, its going to be left alone. How do i get the other one out?
thanks alot

The outer shaft, which is the live power shaft, usally is the one that needs to be replaced, especially on tractors that do a lot of PTO work. The inner shaft cannot be removed unless you remove the TA. Once you remove the live power shaft, you can replace the o-ring that seals the bearing cage to the clutch housing, and there are two seals (I think it's only two) that can be replaced.

Thanks guys. Is there a seal in the cover i can replace? There was quit a bit of hydraulic fluid in the clutch housing. i don't think the rear main is leaking, but as long as its apart, i'll probly replace that too.

Take the three bolts out off the cover thats infront of the T/A. then pull off the cover. The outershaft will just pull out when You pull on it. The we just replaced that shaft on our 986. it was about 100 dollars for it. then it might be a good idea to buy the bearing too. Spencer

When you say bearing, are you talking about the throw out bearing, or is there another one?

i'm not talking about the throw out bearing. there is another bearing on the outer shaft which is called the iptoe shaft (i think thats how you spell it) and the cover you take off there is a seal on that and an o-ring. the way it sounds i'm pretty sure your going to need that bearing. with that seal just take a screw driver and pound on the out side ouf the seal and make it bend in and it will come right out for ya. Remove the capscrews from the quill surrounding the outer shaft, and the shaft is easily removed by pulling forward.
