I am restoring my dad's 1940 Farmall H and would like to know where the sediment bowl was placed?
Was it under main fuel tank or under the small starting tank?

I was told the small tank at first then later the big tank.I have a few pics here at home of them in the feild with it on the smal tank, but that doesnt mean anything.Appaerntly the problem was the bowl stuch out a good bit and when a belt would jump off in that direction,it would take the bowl with it.With the valve on the small tank it would miss it.Just what I was told.

Thanks for the information Paul. One further question, wgere would I find a shut off that goes under the small starting tank? I have the correct sediment bowl.

Alvin, If it doesnt matter if it is original, you can probably fabricate something that will work. If however you want to keep everything original looking, it may become an adventure finding the correct shutoff valve. You may try "Steel wheel ranch", or some of the other used part sources. I'm sure theres one out there somewhere. You may even try posting an ad in the YT classifieds. I've had some success doing that.

Alvin, If your tractor was either a distilate or Kerosene model which you indicate it is then the sedement bowl is under the main tank as other sedement bowls are. the difference is that it should have an inlet where it screws into the main tank, a side inlet, an outlet plus the shutoff , whereas a gasoline only tractor's sedement bowl would have the main inlet , outlet and shutoff valve. The Dual fuel models then have a shut off valve at the small tank and a fuel line from that shutoff valve to the inlet in the sedement bowl then a fuel line to the carburetor. The problem is that a lot of dual fuel tractors were converted to gasoline only, and the 2 inlet bowls replaced with a single inlet only. If that be the case, you will need to find a dual fuel sedement bowl. Hopefully, yours if not hooked to the fuel line to the small tank has a plug in the side outlet.
