Can you believe that someone is dumb enough to buy a gas cap when they can get the same thing for free?

Hello, I just recently found out about the gas caps via this web site. I printed the form...sent it in, and shortly the UPS truck came down the lane with two new gas caps. Worked good for me at the time. My neighbor needs one...we will see how it works out for him. My .02c worth.

Binder Books carried them in stock, and were free, no waiting... I don't know if they still do or not.

There are several reasons you might have to buy one (some already mentioned). Another, there is only one free cap per tractor. Some of those free caps are 20+ years old and may need replacing.

The dumb part of this is bidding eight or ten bucks more than it costs to pick one up from a dealer.

Nothing dumb about it. Just try ordering one of those "free" gas caps and find out just how long it takes you to get it--that is if you get it at all. Some people think just because something is reputed to be free it's worth all sorts of hassle and frustration. There used to be a guy on here who seemed to have a lot of his self worth staked on those "free" gas caps and what a great deal they were. He would get quite angry about any discussion to the contrary. He must have had a nervous break down or something. Here's a little free advice for you--forget that silly free gas cap and spring for a couple of bucks. Don't take a chance on trouble.

Several years ago I bought one at a local dealer who never thought to mention the free cap offer (imagine that!). I found out about it later when I bought manuals from Binder books.

I know you can get them for free, but its not worth the hassle for me.I ordered three of them last March,2003,not this past March, still aint got 'em,sent in form several times with same numbers and someone on here gave me a number to call about them and still aint seen 'em.I have since bought the caps one at a time each time I get another tractor. No biggie to me,I would rather fork out the money than take a chance, allbeit slight chance,on something ahppening while I am still waiting..... ..... ...

When the program first started several years ago, you just took an old one to your local dealer. I sent in the form about 5 weeks ago, and received 2 of them Tuesday.

"Several Years Ago"??? The lawsuit that caused that campaign was in 1980 or 1981. The Free Gas cap program started within a year so it's been over 20 years ago!

What are the known details of the lawsuit? I remember my Dad getting new gas caps for all the tractors when I was in 1st or 2nd grade. Never knew why.

New Old Stock is much better than New New Stock.
