Are 15.5's too big for a working,farming H tractor?
I have a set of 15.5's on a 560 I am taking off because of wear but they are still good tires and would last another 10 years on the old H that pulls a disk, sprayer and hay rake. Should I?
Next, Will the 560 double bevel rims fit on the H?

thanks a bunch.

If you ever use this H to plough, the larger tires won't match most furrows.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll put the 15.5's on and see how they work out.I already have them and they are already mounted.

Now I just to see if the rims will fit on the H.

Chris: Depends on you goals. If you are looking for floatation with no added weight it will work quite fine. However if you put the 15.5 on, fill them with chloride, add wheels weights, the H power train will soon be toast.

Another problem will be matching wheels to rims. You will need 300, 350 or 460 wheels to accommodate the double bead rims. If you plan to put the 15.5 tires on the H 10" or 11" rims you'll just be wasteing your time.

I put a used set on my "H" years ago. I split the rims to 14 inches to get all the rubber on the ground. The side wall measured the same as a 12.4 tire so I didn't gain any height or speed, but gained alot of traction . I also only put back in the calcium that was in the 12.4 so not carrying anymore weight than normal. I didn't pull any more than the ole' girl was suspose to, just more efficently. My 2 cents.

Only my opinion, but 12.4's are the ideal size for the H, 13.6's at the most. 15.5's are three sizes bigger than 12.4's. When you increase tire size too much, you actually decrease pulling power, because it takes more power just to turn the wheels. With 15.5's, the speed in each gear will be higher, meaning you pull less in each gear. That would decrease performance with a disk, but actually might be better with a hay rake (thus the optional 7 mph 4th gear). Sprayer speed is only limited by gallons/acre, and at what speed you are most comfortable running the tractor. I don't know if the 560 rims fit or not, but 15.5's are definitely too big for the original rims. I believe your tractor will appear to be running down hill. People do put 15.5's on Super M's, though.

I have 13.6s on my H and that is plenty for the old girl even with the fresh high compression motor . I have a other H with 12.4s and will pull the offset disc that I have easier and that motor has not had anything done to it in years. I have 15.5s on my Super M and they are perfect. Some say they are to big for the SM and not to go over 14.9s Hope this helps.
