Getting ready to replace the front main seal on our Super C and was wondering if anyone has tips on removing the crankshaft pulley. I don't see any set screws or locking bolts; how is this thing held on? It also appears to have been broken once before as evidenced by a braze repair job. Is this a difficult sucker to remove?

Thanks for the tips!

Jamie

Here is a step by step set of directions. First remove the hood and grill. Next pull the raditor. Now rmove the fan, belt, generator. Remove the lower water outlet housing. Now you will need to rig up good blocking to hold the tractor with the front end off the ground, Next disconnect the steering rods from the chasis, now you are ready to unbolt the front bolster and move it off to the left side. Next disconnect the govener and remove the housing. NOW you are ready to remove the pully. Make sure that you have a "Split Bearing Puller", place it behind the pully and attach a two jaw puller to it. The pully is a press fit so start with just the puller but in most cases you will have to use and Act Torch to heat the coller in order to get it off. Now with the pully off you can remove the timing gear cover and replace the seal. The seal comes out the back. While you are here you should clean and inspect the govener making sure it moves smoothly and that the thrust bearing is in good shape. Make sure that you get all of the timing marks in the right place when you put it back together. Now just reverse the process.

Sorry if this sounds to involved but it is the only it can be done.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks Big John! Maybe I'll wait 'till after haying before tackling this one!

One more question: How do you suggest pressing the pulley back on? I don't suppose hammering is recommended.

Thanks.

J

Jamie, The pulley is a "press fit".
I remember this topic being talked about before.Search through the archives on how to remove it....They are pretty easy to break if not done right.
