Hi, Guys I was wondering if any of you super M owners can tell me if the gears in the trannys on your tractors are Higher than a normall farmall. Mine is a LOUISVILLE SUPER and compared to my H ist almost like The SM is twice as fast in every gear. When you go to back up to hook up stough watch out and have the idle at the lowest it can go .

Like Dr Evil says, 2, 3 and especially 4 are faster on a Super M than a straight M. The other gears however (R, 1 and road gear) are only marginally faster on the SM.

The Super H on the other hand is about 10% slower than the SM in EVERY gear. I presume an H is similar. And of course oversized tires speeds everything up...

Super H--Super M speeds, 1-4 are as follows:2 5/8--2 5/8, 3 3/4--3 3/4, 5--5, 6 5/8--6 3/4, unless Guy Fay's data book is wrong. The SH speeds agree with those in my SH Operator's manual. I have an H, Super H, and M, but no Super M. 2nd gear in the Super H and Super M is 1/4 mph faster than second in the in the H and M, not exactly a huge difference, but perhaps significant after a week's work. The biggest and most noticable change is 3rd and 4th.

The Louisville Super M is no different from the others. As to speeds compared to your H or the M, 3rd gear in the SM is about equal to 4th in the H or M, 4th in the SM is about 1.5 mph faster than 4th in the H or M. Not a lot of difference in 1st and 2nd or reverse. Speed is affected by tire size, bigger tires mean more speed, but it would be hard to double it. Do you have an M&W 9 speed in it (don't know if they made one for the Supers)? That would give 2 speeds in 1 thru 4.

Actually 2nd, 3rd & 4th were faster in SM's. M&W made a Super H 9-speed but the ad I have doesn't say anything about a Super M 9-speed.

I have some ads that claim M&W LPTO applications for for SM and SW-6. The ad didnt't bother to include SI-6. Come to think of it, I am not even sure IH built those or bothered to badge them.
