Im still working on the C, but im wondering, will I have to replace the tin?

The hood is pretty bad, its pitted all over, not deep, just alot of little pits. How can I remedy this? Im not going to use Bondo either....;)

The tank is rusty in parts, but no dents at all, it wont be bad to clean up.

The Front grille has no dents, but is rusted pretty bad, the screen is still there, but its pretty "original looking"....

Im going to put shutters on it eventually for originality's sake, as well as put in the distillate tank, if Ican ever get my paws on one.

Anyone got pictures of a C with the shutters installed or a C with distillate tank installed?

I would sandblast the hood, and put the primer on thick, and sand it down smooth. Do you have the shutters? I would like to someday find some to put on my B.

Tommy, I have also heard of using the gel-coat used on fiberglass to smooth up a pitted surface. Never tried it yet, but may when I get ready to work on my C. My grill and hood have quite a bit of rust and may need some filling. Since mine is a working tractor I am just going to brush the cast parts, and rattle can paint the sheet metal. Since I had to remove the fuel tank already to clean it out I sanded the outside, and painted while it was off so it will just need another coat to "freshen" it up when I paint the rest.

Tommy, the professional paint guys on this site scoff at this, but it was suggested to me to use a product called "Kilz" in a spray can to fill the small rust pits on the sheet metal. It is a stain killer/primer and goes on pretty thick. Apply a coat, let is dry thoroughly, sand it down back to the surface, repeat as necessary to fill the pits and achieve a smooth surface, ready for primer. It worked like a champ for me and some friends of mine. Beats spending the money for new stuff. You have to used the spray-on type, not brush-on. It's available at any hardware store or Walmart.

Hey, Ive used Kilz Before, but only in the House. Its great Stuff!

Ill try it on the hood.

Whats so bad is that the hood is in great shape, no dents or holes. Its just badly rusted.

Its even got all the orginal J-Hooks, and they all still latch on.

You can have new hoods for 100.00 pluss shipping. Shutters can be hard to find. Gas tanks go for 50 just run an add or send an e-mail as i have one.
