In an attempt to be brief, I didn't fully describe my system. When I purchased this tractor as junk, the power steering priority valve and safety regulator system was a fused piece of solid rust. (The plug on top was missing and it filled with water over the years)I was unable to find a replacement, so I removed ALL the original hydraulic valves and used the existing threads in the casting to lead the oil to a new priority flow divider and a brand new Prince 3 spool valve body mounted behind the seat. I used a 3/8 hose from the front pressure hole to a tee in the rear pressure hole, then 1/2" hoses to the valve. A 3/4 hose from the valve return side goes to the flow divider with a 3/8 going to the steering and the overflow goes into a 1/2 inch. The steering return and the divider return join into a 3/4 on the intake of the filter. (THe screen in the resevoir was missing, so I put a spin-on hydraulic filter on the return line to keep everything clean.) I also installed gauges on the pressure and return lines. THe high pressure side typically runs 300 psi during normal operations. (Up to 1500 when lifting a heavy load on the drawbar) The return side runs about 20 psi with a new filter, and I change the filter when it gets to around 60 psi. THe Prince flow divider is adjustable, and I backed it off until it just provided enough fluid for good steering response. The previous owner told me it always ran hot, and a friend with a 300U said his did too. THe pump was fine when I first started using this setup, but has started developing leaks that I blame on the heat. I'll have the pump rebuilt, but want to correct the heating problem before I do. I'd prefer to return this tractor to original, so If anyone can lead me to a proper valve setup, I's really appreciate it. I noted my 450 Farmall Row Crop with PS has a similier Priority flow valve but mounted differently. Is it the same valve, and could it be mounted on the utility version? If so, I may have more luck finding a Farmall 300, 350, 400, 450 valve setup. Failing that, I'd like to atleast get the oil temperature down with my current setup. Thanks for All your input. I appreciate any and all help provided.
